Poured Acrylic Canvas

This is another one of our projects completed during the stay-at-home order. I had purchased the supplies back in January, thinking we would have gotten to this project on a weekend. Well, all the weekends passed and we never got to it. Being stuck at home provided the perfect opportunity to work on this fun little art project.  This is something we wanted to do and hang in the guest bathroom, once we completed the bathroom's facelift.

We set up a drop cloth outside and got some fresh air while working on this canvas. This was a great art project to do with the Little Mister. We used the Color Pour Pre-Mixed Pouring Paints in the colors indigo, turquoise, orange, white and light blue. 


Because we wanted to try to get a color between the turquoise and indigo, we mixed the two a little. 






At random, we added the other colors into the cup a clear plastic party cup.  I let the Little Mister tell me what color he wanted to add next.  When we added the orange to the cup, it kind of created a muddy color I wasn't crazy about. However, we just rolled with it.




Here is a picture of the Little Mister showing his excitement after flipping the paint cup on the canvas.  This made his day.


Here's a video of our first poured acrylic experience.  (It can also be viewed on my YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqZPlpoxRIU&t=12s.)  You'll see in the video, we didn't have enough paint in the cup.  So we chose to add paint by squirting it directly onto the canvas.  This actually created some cool lines all throughout the painting.  Hope you enjoy this video of our acrylic pour!

For the Little Mister's Mickey Mouse themed party, we wanted to have some cookies decorated with the Mickey theme.  I had a difficult time locating the right size cookie cutter locally.  I found a set of Mickey Mouse cookie cutters, but they would have made for some really small cookies. I had seen a few things on the internet about making your own cookie cutter.  I was running out of time and had difficulty finding the right size mouse face and ears in a cookie cutter,  I decided to give making my own cutter a try. I used this tutorial by Queen Leilani on YouTube.  The instructions for making the cutter begin around the two minute mark of the video.  This video was apparently a contest submission, so she does quite a bit of talking before the tutorial.  However, her instructions on actually making the cutter are quite easy to follow. The cookie cutter I made came out better than I expected.  I just kind of kept playing around with the shape until it seemed just right.

New Furniture! The Ashley Wilcot Collection and McAdams Recliner

After seven years with this cute, but uncomfortable cheap sofa, we have finally moved on to something new.  I had been telling my husband for years, we work hard, at minimum we should be comfortable in our own house.  The problem with this sofa is that the cushions were rather flat, once you sat down on the piece.  Also, the seat depth was too long for my short legs.  It forced me to sit in an awkward position that was uncomfortable and hard on my lower back. Here's our old sofa and living room setup. So, after much back and forth about the type of sofa we wanted, we finally decided on something we could both agree on.  He was team three cushion couch, I was team sectional.  I think the standard three cushion sofa is so uncomfortable.  Who wants to sit down without putting their feet up?  I love sectionals because they are comfy and my favorite spot is the corner seat. Converting Dress Pants to Maternity Pants

I have been having a difficult time finding maternity dress pants.  I would like to not pay a fortune for them.  Additionally, I was already an in between size before pregnancy.  Plus size close are usually too big, but some of the misses clothes were too tight and ill fitting.  I am also short, so finding dress pants that fit well and that do not requeire hemming is also a challenge.    I bought these pants from New York and Company about two years ago.  I wore them three times before the zipper broke.  I was pretty disappointed because I loved the way these pants fit.  I considered bringing them to a tailor, and put them off to the side to do so.  However, as with a few other pieces I have in need of altering, I forgot about them.  Now, I am glad I never brought them to the tailor because I decided to turn them into maternity pants.   The key to turning regular pants into maternity pants is to make sure they fit you through the hips and legs.  The first step is to remove t
