Sometimes You Just Fail

Yes, not every idea works out.  Sometimes you fail, but sometimes failure can spark another idea with which you have success.  A few weeks ago, on Pinterest, I came across the idea for a DIY cell phone case.  It was so pretty, and looked like this:

I tried to do this twice and it just never came out right.  Maybe I sprayed too thick a layer of gold spray paint over the lace.  My version looked real gloppy.  For some reason, it just didn't work out.  Here is my version.



Maybe I will try again later.  I thought about doing a design using masking tape to create a template or purchasing a stencil.  We shall see.  For now, I will just have to stick with my Plain Jane case.

After seven years with this cute, but uncomfortable cheap sofa, we have finally moved on to something new.  I had been telling my husband for years, we work hard, at minimum we should be comfortable in our own house.  The problem with this sofa is that the cushions were rather flat, once you sat down on the piece.  Also, the seat depth was too long for my short legs.  It forced me to sit in an awkward position that was uncomfortable and hard on my lower back. Here's our old sofa and living room setup. So, after much back and forth about the type of sofa we wanted, we finally decided on something we could both agree on.  He was team three cushion couch, I was team sectional.  I think the standard three cushion sofa is so uncomfortable.  Who wants to sit down without putting their feet up?  I love sectionals because they are comfy and my favorite spot is the corner seat. Mickey Mouse Cookies and DIY Cookie Cutter

For the Little Mister's Mickey Mouse themed party, we wanted to have some cookies decorated with the Mickey theme.  I had a difficult time locating the right size cookie cutter locally.  I found a set of Mickey Mouse cookie cutters, but they would have made for some really small cookies. I had seen a few things on the internet about making your own cookie cutter.  I was running out of time and had difficulty finding the right size mouse face and ears in a cookie cutter,  I decided to give making my own cutter a try. I used this tutorial by Queen Leilani on YouTube.  The instructions for making the cutter begin around the two minute mark of the video.  This video was apparently a contest submission, so she does quite a bit of talking before the tutorial.  However, her instructions on actually making the cutter are quite easy to follow. The cookie cutter I made came out better than I expected.  I just kind of kept playing around with the shape until it seemed just right.

Slow Cooker Shrimp Fajitas

I wanted a way to make shrimp fajitas in the slow cooker.  With a little experimentation, I think I've figured it out.  This version proved to be quite tasty. Ingredients: 2 lbs shrimp 1 large onion 1 red bell pepper 1 yellow bell pepper 1 green bell pepper 2 tablespoons cumin salt pepper First, slice an onion, red, yellow and green bell peppers. Throw them all into the slow cooker. Add the shrimp to the slow cooker also.  Season with two tablespoons of cumin and salt and pepper to taste.  Cook on low for two and a half hours.  This is a great recipe if you have a slow cooker with a timer.
