Wedding Idea: Unity Candle

I purchased a unity candle set from Hobby Lobby. It was plain and had no writing or designs on it. The set included one thick cream colored candle and two thinner candles. I also used a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 vellum scrapbook paper.

On the paper, I printed a verse used during our wedding ceremony and our wedding monogram. Once printed, I trimmed an inch from the top and bottom of the vellum paper. I wrapped the paper around the thick candle to measure the size needed. You only want about a half inch overlap of the paper at the back of the candle. Once this has been determined, trim the paper to size.

Now, using hot glue, adhere one edge of the paper to the back of the candle. Wrap the paper all the way around the candle and glue the other edge to the existing piece of vellum that has already been glued to the candle.

To cover the seams (where the paper and candle meet near the top and bottom of the candle), simply glue a piece of 1/4 inch organza ribbon over them. This will not only conceal the seams, but will also add interest to an otherwise drab candle.

If you would like to dress up the thinner candles, you can use the same 1/4 inch organza ribbon and glue it around the candles. Doing this will add a little color to those candles as well.

After seven years with this cute, but uncomfortable cheap sofa, we have finally moved on to something new.  I had been telling my husband for years, we work hard, at minimum we should be comfortable in our own house.  The problem with this sofa is that the cushions were rather flat, once you sat down on the piece.  Also, the seat depth was too long for my short legs.  It forced me to sit in an awkward position that was uncomfortable and hard on my lower back. Mickey Mouse Cookies and DIY Cookie Cutter

For the Little Mister's Mickey Mouse themed party, we wanted to have some cookies decorated with the Mickey theme.  I had a difficult time locating the right size cookie cutter locally.  I found a set of Mickey Mouse cookie cutters, but they would have made for some really small cookies. I had seen a few things on the internet about making your own cookie cutter.  I was running out of time and had difficulty finding the right size mouse face and ears in a cookie cutter,  I decided to give making my own cutter a try. I used this tutorial by Queen Leilani on YouTube.  The instructions for making the cutter begin around the two minute mark of the video.  This video was apparently a contest submission, so she does quite a bit of talking before the tutorial.  However, her instructions on actually making the cutter are quite easy to follow. The cookie cutter I made came out better than I expected.  I just kind of kept playing around with the shape until it seemed just right.

Slow Cooker Shrimp Fajitas

I wanted a way to make shrimp fajitas in the slow cooker.  With a little experimentation, I think I've figured it out.  This version proved to be quite tasty. Ingredients: 2 lbs shrimp 1 large onion 1 red bell pepper 1 yellow bell pepper 1 green bell pepper 2 tablespoons cumin salt pepper First, slice an onion, red, yellow and green bell peppers. Throw them all into the slow cooker. Add the shrimp to the slow cooker also.  Season with two tablespoons of cumin and salt and pepper to taste.  Cook on low for two and a half hours.  This is a great recipe if you have a slow cooker with a timer.
