Wedding Idea: Wooden Letters

It is popular to use wood to emphasize certain wedding related phrases.  Some brides choose to use this type of decor to dress up guest tables, cake tables, gift tables or even food tables.  For our wedding, we used the letters for the cake table.


This is one of the easiest projects to do.  I purchased unfinished wooden letters from Hobby Lobby.  I also bought some acrylic paint in a color we used for our wedding.  In case you haven't already figured out, Hobby Lobby became my favorite store when we were preparing for our wedding.

Just paint both sides of the letters with acrylic paint and that is all there is to it.  No really, it's that simple.

After seven years with this cute, but uncomfortable cheap sofa, we have finally moved on to something new.  I had been telling my husband for years, we work hard, at minimum we should be comfortable in our own house.  The problem with this sofa is that the cushions were rather flat, once you sat down on the piece.  Also, the seat depth was too long for my short legs.  It forced me to sit in an awkward position that was uncomfortable and hard on my lower back. Mickey Mouse Cookies and DIY Cookie Cutter

For the Little Mister's Mickey Mouse themed party, we wanted to have some cookies decorated with the Mickey theme.  I had a difficult time locating the right size cookie cutter locally.  I found a set of Mickey Mouse cookie cutters, but they would have made for some really small cookies. I had seen a few things on the internet about making your own cookie cutter.  I was running out of time and had difficulty finding the right size mouse face and ears in a cookie cutter,  I decided to give making my own cutter a try. I used this tutorial by Queen Leilani on YouTube.  The instructions for making the cutter begin around the two minute mark of the video.  This video was apparently a contest submission, so she does quite a bit of talking before the tutorial.  However, her instructions on actually making the cutter are quite easy to follow. The cookie cutter I made came out better than I expected.  I just kind of kept playing around with the shape until it seemed just right.

Slow Cooker Shrimp Fajitas

I wanted a way to make shrimp fajitas in the slow cooker.  With a little experimentation, I think I've figured it out.  This version proved to be quite tasty. Ingredients: 2 lbs shrimp 1 large onion 1 red bell pepper 1 yellow bell pepper 1 green bell pepper 2 tablespoons cumin salt pepper First, slice an onion, red, yellow and green bell peppers. Throw them all into the slow cooker. Add the shrimp to the slow cooker also.  Season with two tablespoons of cumin and salt and pepper to taste.  Cook on low for two and a half hours.  This is a great recipe if you have a slow cooker with a timer.
